Express Entry Program in Canada
The Express Entry (EE) Program in Canada is an electronic management application system that manages all of Canada’s four main economic immigration programs for Permanent Residence (PR). They are:
- The Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
- The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
- The Federal Skilled Trades Programs (FSTP)
- Provinces and Territories’ Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)
Canadian Experience Class
If you are a temporary foreign worker or a foreign student and have skilled work experience in Canada, you may qualify to receive PR under the Canadian Experience Class. Work experience must have been gained in the 3 years before you apply.
Federal Skilled Worker Program
Federal Skilled Trades Program
This program is for skilled workers who are qualified in a skilled trade with foreign skilled-trade work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently. You might also have a valid job offer or a certificate of qualification.
Provincial Nominee Program
- have the skills, education, and work experience to contribute to the economic need of a specific province or territory
- want to live in that province, and
- province want to become Permanent Residents of Canada
Each province or territory has its own immigration (streams) programs that target certain groups, and requirements. For example, in a program stream, provinces and territories may target:
- businesspeople
- Semi-skilled workers
- Skilled workers, and/or
- Students
How each application is done depends on which PNP stream an applicant is applying to, and it may be through using paper-based process, or by the online process through Express Entry.
Regardless, everyone must have a medical exam and get a police check (certificate) no matter where they plan to live in Canada.
